Maxime was interviewed on March 13, 1984 in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. Like many other Métis children, Maxime had to quit school at a young age to work in order to help support his family. He discusses the various jobs he had from when he was a little boy to when he had to provide for his own family. Growing up Maxime’s family relied a great deal on natural resources such as hunting and berry picking for food and seneca root for medicine. He talks a fair deal about some of the hard times when he was growing up including the availability of work and money and how people managed to survive. Although Maxime was not heavily involved in politics he shares names of people who were and stories about the locals and organizations that existed. |
