Description: |
Mrs. Munroe, a Métis, was born on the Muskoday Reserve. She attended day school there and then married and lived in considerable poverty. When her husband joined the army in WWII, she was asked to leave the reserve. She lived in an area outside the reserve where other Métis resided. She was voted back into the reserve when her husband was seriously wounded and not expected to recover. He did recover, however, and returned to join her on the reserve. Nancy also discusses her childhood on Muskoday Reserve including details of day school: teachers, lessons, discipline, outside activities. She briefly discusses Christianity on the reserves. Nancy also discusses in detail her marriage: poverty followed by relative wealth when her husband joined the army in WWII.
