Adams, Howard, Interview |
Subject: |
Politics, History, Lifestyle, 1885 Resistance |
Description: |
Howard was interviewed on August 20, 1976 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Howard Adams is a Métis from the St. Louis area, south of Prince Albert. He was, at one time the only Métis with a Ph.D. in Canada. While working for the University of Saskatchewan, Department of Education, he traveled into the north on a community development program. It is there that he became acquainted with Malcolm Norris who was then active in organizing the first Métis Association in northern Saskatchewan. Like Malcolm, Adams has an advanced analysis of the dilemma facing Aboriginal people and, in this tape, he discusses the role played by Malcolm in the Métis organization, his impressions of the man, including his downfalls and the tragic decline of Malcolm after his stroke and heart attacks. Howard also briefly mentions the Métis’ involvement in the 1885 Resistance and commercial fishing. |
