Description: | This page contains two images related to the “siege of Battleford”. It is dated May 2, 1885. The first image – “The Mounted Police Band Parading at Battleford, to Play in the Garrison of Fort Pitt” – shows members of the North-West Mounted Police parading before the relieved citizens of Battleford. The second image – “The Relief of Battleford” – shows the Canadian Army marching into Battleford. The “siege” of Battleford by Poundmaker’s warriors captured the imagination of Canadians. On March 30, 1885, Métis and First Nations sacked the town after Lieutenant-Colonel William Otter abandoned it to attack Poundmaker’s band. |
