Jacob Beads was born in Manitoba, the son of John and Margaret Beads. Jacob joined the Hudson’s Bay Company when he was 15. His first posting was to Moose Factory as an apprentice carpenter. Jacob Beads was a Métis carpenter of great skill. He was a master of the woodworking craft. He worked as a wheelwright, built York Boats, scows and bridges. He also made snowshoes, Red River carts and dogsleds. He eventually retired to Fort Pelly where he died. |
