Title: |
1885: Rebellion or Resistance? |
Creator: |
Préfontaine, Darren |
Subject: |
Resistance, Rebellion, 1869, 1870, 1885 |
Description: |
This document discusses why the Métis prefer to use the term "resistance" rather than "rebellion" when describing the events of 1869-70 at Red River and 1885 in the Saskatchewan Country. The Métis` spirit of resistance is the main theme in Métis history and the events in 1869-70 and 1885 should not be taken out of that context because they were part of a larger pattern of resistance that predated and continued after the two great Métis resistance movements. |
