Description: |
This document is the fourth part of ``Two Months in the Camp of Big Bear. The Life and Adventures of Theresa Gowanlock and Theresa Delaney.`` The book caused a great stir when it was published in 1886. It featured literary tropes common in Victorian writing of the time including the frailty of women, the ``savagery`` of Native captors. However, Mrs. Gowlanlock and Mrs. Delaney embellished their captivity to better suit Victorian attitudes towards First Nations and Métis people. They also failed to properly mention when First Nations women protected them from Big Bear`s warriors; however, they grudgingly acknowledged being protected by ``Half-Breeds,`` including John Pritchard, the Métis interpreter, and his family.
