Description: |
This image (by Peter Beszterda) is of a newspaper article entitled ``Beleaguered Force at Battleford was Relieved Forty-Nine Years Ago Today,`` which appeared in the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, April 24, 1885. This newspaper clipping was inside a 7 lb cannon projectile that was used in the Battle of Cutknife Hill (May 2, 1885). The projectile (and thus this newspaper clipping) was given to Dennis and Jean Fisher in the fall of 2011 by Gordon Bowman. Dennis and Jean Fisher in turn donated this artifact to the Gabriel Dumont Institute. It is part of the Dennis and Jean Fisher Collection. This collection contains archaeological artifacts taken from the battlefields of the 1885 Resistance as well as Fort Pitt (Saskatchewan), Cumberland House (Saskatchewan) and St. Peter’s Mission, Montana. The collection also includes various artifacts and ephemera relating to the 1885 Resistance and Gabriel Dumont. |
