Description: | This image is of Damase Carriere (son of Elie Carriere and Elmire Landry), a veteran of the 1885 Resistance killed during the Battle of Batoche. His wife was Marie Pelagie Parenteau, Gabriel Dumont’s niece. Second World War veteran David H. Carriere was the grandson of Damase Carriere. According to Victor Demas Carriere, Damase Carriere’s great-grandson, Damase was captured by Canadian troops, had a rope tied around his neck, and was drug by a horse until he died. Damase Carriere is buried in the Batoche Cemetery.
