Description: | This image is of Marie Pelagie (Parenteau) Carriere, wife of Damase Carriere and niece of Gabriel Dumont. Marie’s parents were Jean-Baptise Parenteau and Pelagie Dumont. Marie’s husband, Damase died during the Battle of Batoche. Second World War veteran David H. Carriere was the grandson of Marie Pelagie Parenteau and Damase Carriere. According to Victor Demas Carriere, Damase Carriere’s great-grandson, Damase was captured by Canadian troops, had a rope tied around his neck, and was drug by a horse until he died. Damase Carriere is buried in the Batoche Cemetery.
