This text has been prepared by Pat Redhead: Paquin / Pocha: The origins of a family in the Canadian Fur Trade. The Pocha family arose from the union of a French-Canadian voyageur and a Cree woman in about 1800. The family lived in the Red River Settlement parish of High Bluff and moved to the Prince Albert area in about 1878. The genealogy of the family has been traced back to early New France and the founding families of Quebec.This family history spans ten generations from 1634-1896. The historical context of each generation is explained for the layman. Two appendices provide detailed family trees. Available in English and French. |
